Strange, after all these years, there is still another way of opening a mangosteen that I never knew!!
Of course on the presentation aspect, you cut across it into half with a zig-zag pattern.
But the one shown in the photo sequence is something new to me. Maybe you have come across this or even doing it this way.

When i eat mangosteen, i usually did a vertical slide if i use a knife. If not, squeezing it will get the job done on those ripe one but you can't get a nice and neat looking fruit like in the picture, they still taste as good though. hahaha..
I think most people like me will first remove the stalk, and then squeeze open.

Mangosteen is my favorite fruits lah. I could not resist the temptation, rushed to market but couldn't get even one fruit of mangosteen.
